‘KP sees decline in polio vaccination refusal cases’

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health department has claimed the polio vaccination refusal cases in the province have declined from 45,000 to 27,000 since the start of the Sehat Ka Ittehad (Alliance for Health) programme 10 days ago. “It’s the first time during the last one year that (polio vaccination) refusal cases have showed a decline. The main reason for it is the political commitment of the centre and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the Sehat Ka Ittehad (SKI) programme,” said a health department report. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has long been facing the oral polio vaccination refusal cases. Many families had developed doubts about vaccine and refused to administer it to their children. However, the SKI was launched in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and adjacent Federally Administered Tribal Areas simultaneously last week by PTI chairman Imran Khan and Governor Mehtab Ahmed Khan to contact such families to allay they doubts and convince them for vaccination of their children.
